CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas and is used as an alternate fuel option for automobiles. It is gaseous fuel and is a mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly methane, in the range of 89% to 90%. Due to its low density, it is compressed to a pressure of 200-250 kg/cm² (g) to enhance the vehicle onboard storage capacity.
BENEFITS OF CNG
➦ No impurities, No Sulphur (S), No lead (Pb).
➦ Very low levels of polluting gaseous emissions without smell and dust.
➦ Lighter than air - in case of leak no dangerous fire accidents.
➦ CNG cylinders are structurally most sound and have passed every severe test.
➦ Cheaper than conventional fuel: Payback period is short (around 3 - 4 Years)
➦ Unlikely to ignite due to:
High ignition temperature
The narrow range of ignition
Lowest injury and death rate per vehicle mile for CNG cylinder.
